The Kalinin Front was part of the Soviet Western Front and ran from Kalinin to Tula
USSR. At first the Front was assigned 3 Soviet armies, 22nd, 29th and 30th and was a
major part in the defense of Moscow. The winter of 1941-42 was one of the worst on
record taking a heavy toll on German troops and equipment. The very few KV-2s that
were left from the initial German assault were pressed into service along with KV-1s and
T-34s. Battles at this Front went on for over two years.
